Kkooee.com is an engineering services marketplace. It connects engineering talent with engineering consulting firms and individuals seeking to hire engineers (hereafter called the ‘Clients’ and ‘Service Providers’ respectively) for their projects.

The website is a registered business entity in Queensland, Australia and operates globally through their online marketplace.

Bede Evans, an engineer by qualification, is a leading community manager in a large scale engineering company.

Gavin Christie is the Senior Manager, Marketing and Business Development in one of the big-4 global consulting companies.

Problem

The traditional process to identify, procure, and deliver engineering services incurs high transaction and contracting costs.

The global pool of available engineering services talent is also limited to consultants/agent’s network reach.

Procurement of engineering talent (hiring), and actual project documentation (scope, communication, documentation, costs, and deliverable) are also scattered at various places.

The large-scale engineering services firms are facing the time and process cost issues such as high administrative costs, margins, labor, and transaction costs.

To fill the gap in the engineering services industry, kkooee’s founders planned to launch an online marketplace for the engineering industry.

After successfully delivering the PoC, kkooee now required Softicks to build a fully functional and scalable marketplace application having features such as:

  • Project workspace
  • PayPal Payments
  • Project Milestones
  • Client-Service provider correspondence (Chat window & Email)

Solution

Softicks design and development team worked closely with the founders Bede Evens (COO) and Gavin Christie (CMO) of kkooee.com to develop their innovative idea into fully-functional scalable marketplace application

In phase II, Softicks developed a fully-functional SaaS (Software-as-a-Service) web application as an online marketplace for engineering services providers (independent engineers, freelancers) and engineering firms/individuals (clients) to post their engineering projects.

The web application had three-tier architecture as follows:

  • User front end: A mobile optimized user interface built in Drupal
  • Back-end: The back-end was a MySQL server instance hosted on AWS
  • Cloud-based hosting on AWS (Amazon Web Services)

jQuery was used to help build a highly interactive web application. Major features of the marketplace are:

The kkooee’s workspace is a collaborative place where clients and service providers act as a project-based team.

The clients and service providers can have discussion/chat about the project; a client can manage milestones, deliverables, time tracking and reporting, payment history about the project, service providers, project files and much more.

The solution provides a seamless experience for both users (service providers and clients).
